Applying a Scenario to Your Baseline Forecast
Learn what happens when you apply a scenario, how it affects your baseline forecast, and what to review before turning a planned decision into part of your future forecast
Scenario Modelling allows you to explore potential business decisions without affecting your baseline forecast.
When you're confident a scenario reflects a real decision you plan to make, you can apply that scenario to your baseline forecast.
Applying a scenario incorporates its forecast changes into your primary forecast, allowing future planning and reporting to reflect the decision.
Why Would I Apply a Scenario?
Scenarios are designed to help answer questions such as:
- What if I hire additional staff?
- What if I purchase new equipment?
- What if I win additional work?
- What if my costs increase?
Once you've identified a scenario that reflects a decision you're ready to proceed with, applying it allows your forecast to reflect the new business reality.
What Happens When I Apply a Scenario?
When a scenario is applied:
-
The scenario's forecast changes become part of your baseline forecast
- Future comparisons will use the updated baseline
- The decision becomes part of your forward looking planning view
The scenario is no longer being viewed as a separate possibility. Instead, it becomes part of the forecast you use to manage your business going forward.
What Doesn't Change?
Applying a scenario updates your forecast, but it does not:
- Create transactions
- Modify Xero data
- Modify MYOB data
- Modify Simpro data
- Change historical records
Connected systems remain unchanged. The scenario only affects how future information is represented within BCB
Review Before Applying
Before selecting Apply to Baseline, review:
Assumptions
Confirm Apollo's assumptions accurately reflect your intended change
Timing
Check that dates and forecast periods are correct
Values
Review forecast amounts and recurring transactions
Why Is There a Confirmation Step?
Applying a scenario is a deliberate decision.
The confirmation process is designed to ensure you understand:
- What changes are being applied
- How your forecast will be affected
- The impact on future planning
Take the time to review the information before proceeding
After Applying a Scenario
Once applied, review your updated baseline forecast and ensure it reflects your expectations.
Pay particular attention to:
- Cash position changes
- Timing differences
- New recurring transactions
- Future forecast balances
This helps ensure your planning remains aligned with current business expectations.
Applying Scenarios with Confidence
Scenarios are intended to help you make decisions before committing to them.
When you're confident the scenario represents a genuine business decision, applying it ensures your forecast remains relevant, practical and aligned with the direction of your business.
