FAQs about managing categories and how they impact forecasting in BCB

  1. What are categories in BCB?

Categories help organise income and expenses and determine how information is grouped throughout forecasts and reporting.

  2. How do categories affect my forecast?
Accurate categorisation helps ensure financial information is presented correctly and contributes to more meaningful forecasting and reporting.
  3. Can I edit categories?
Yes. Categories created within BCB can be edited.

However, categories that originate from connected integrations must be managed in the source system.
  4. Can I hide categories?
Yes. Selecting the Eye icon allows you to hide a category from selected views within BCB.

Hidden categories can be re-enabled later if required.

  5. What happens if categories are incorrect?
Incorrect category assignments may result in misleading forecasts, reporting or analysis.

Review category setup regularly and ensure connected systems remain accurate and up to date.
  6. Are categories synced from my integrations?
Yes. Categories from connected integrations can be synced into BCB.

Changes to synced categories must be made within the source system rather than in BCB.

  7. Can I create custom categories?
Yes. Select New Category from the Categories page to create a custom category for use within BCB.
  8. What is the difference between synced and custom categories?
Synced categories originate from connected systems such as Xero, MYOB or Simpro.

Custom categories are created directly within BCB and can be managed independently of connected integrations.
