Single Scenario or Compare Scenarios: Which View Should I Use?

Learn the difference between Single Scenario and Compare Scenarios, and choose the view that best helps you analyse business decisions before applying changes to your baseline forecast.

BCB provides two ways to review scenario forecasts: Single Scenario and Compare Scenarios.

Both views help you evaluate potential business decisions before applying them to your baseline forecast, but each is designed for a different purpose.

Single Scenario

Single Scenario lets you focus on one alternative against your baseline forecast.

This view is useful when you want to understand the impact of a specific business decision in detail.

Examples include:

- Hiring additional staff
- Purchasing equipment
- Adding recurring expenses
- Creating a growth plan

Use the category breakdown to review:

- Baseline values
- Scenario values
- The difference between the two

This makes it easier to understand exactly how the scenario affects your forecast.

Compare Scenarios

Compare Scenarios allows you to review multiple alternatives alongside your baseline forecast.

You can compare up to five scenarios at the same time. This view is useful when you're deciding between multiple options.

Examples include:

- Hiring one employee versus two employees
- Purchasing equipment now versus later
- Comparing best case and worst case plans
- Evaluating different growth opportunities

The comparison view helps you review how closing balances and forecast outcomes differ over time

Scenarios Remain Separate

Each scenario is a separate alternative forecast.

Selecting multiple scenarios does not combine their effects.

BCB compares each scenario independently against the baseline forecast so you can clearly understand the impact of each option.

Viewing Is Not Applying

Reviewing or comparing scenarios does not change your baseline forecast

You can:

- Create scenarios
- Review scenarios
- Compare scenarios
- Update scenarios

Without affecting your current forecast

Applying a scenario is a separate action that requires confirmation before changes are incorporated into your baseline forecast.

Which View Should I Choose?

Use Single Scenario when you want to:

- Understand one decision in detail
- Review assumptions and forecast transactions
- Analyse category level impacts
- Prepare to apply a scenario

Use Compare Scenarios when you want to:

- Compare multiple options
- Review different outcomes side by side
- Evaluate best case and worst case scenarios
- Identify the strongest forecast result
